THE WISH COTTAGE

Wish Cottage stood in an area of cornfields, market gardens and even brickfields. At the end of the Great War this was largely undeveloped, but early in the 1920s builders started to take over. This photograph looks westwards towards a lone house in Portland Avenue. This is the present No.2 built in 1922 and then known as St. Francis. Most of Portland Avenue was built during 1927 and it was this development which sealed the fate of the Wish Cottage.
