WILBURY AVENUE

View westwards along the north side of Wilbury Avenue, taken from near the junction with Wilbury Villas. These large semi-detached houses were built at the turn of the century and were occupied by professional people, doctors, solicitors and the like, each with one or two servants. By the 1970s having outlived their original purpose they attracted the attention of the property developer as a good site for the inevitable blocks of flats, and so the first four, 63-69 were removed early in 1973 with this intention.
