STATION ROAD, PRESTON

The official postal address of these old cottages was – Railway Cottages South, London Road, Withdean. The railway line is in the deep cutting behind the cottages. They were not easy to find, being approached by a narrow lane between the Police Cottages and Brangwyn Way. Most Brightonians were unaware of their existence. Being south of Patcham Tunnel, they were designated South to distinguish them from the two similar ones just north of the tunnel, in Mill Lane Patcham. Photographed about 1960. I have no record of when they were removed.
