DAMAGE TO WEST PIER DECEMBER 1896

Severe damage was also caused to the new sea wall, which had been constructed as recently as 1894. An interesting feature is the stone groyne at right angle to the sea wall. Owing to the accumulation of shingle this often becomes hidden.
