LAUREL ROW

Although cleared away in 1935/6, it still existed, in little more than name, some 30 years afterwards. The photograph of this one-time slum alley was taken in 1963, looking west to the distant St Marys Church, with the rear of old buildings in Warwick Street at the right, and those of shop premises in Upper St James’s at the left. Now covered with Council houses and flats.
