A view of this district taken from the then allotment gardens adjoining the Drove. All the roads in the foreground look about the same as they do now, 60 years later. The photograph was copied from a postcard of 1909.
Note all the open land on the hillside. The almost empty Tivoli Crescent North can be seen curving up to the Dyke Road with just two houses in Hangleton Road and beyond houses on the east side of Maldon Road. Two houses in Tivoli Crescent, the present 80 and 82, stand high by the steps leading down to Hampstead Road.
