CASTLE STREET AND STONE STREET

These two small streets, between Preston Street and Western Road seldom appear in the news, despite their long life. They were probably built during the 1830s. In the early 1960s there were proposals to clear the sites for the building of a Car Park so I had these photographs taken on 9 February 1964. Fortunately nothing came of these proposals and the streets are still here (1992). As this is the prime site near shops and seafront how much longer will they remain.
This view shows 6/9 Castle Street, at the junction with Stone Street.
