KINGS ROAD – BETWEEN WEST STREET AND MIDDLE STREET

A stroll along the prom. in the summer of 1893. Note that the gas lamps were about to be replaced by the electric standards, which were then being erected at the south kerbside. In front of the distant Chain Pier can be seen the incomplete skeleton of the new Palace Pier, still 6 years away from completion. Note the long line of wooden capstans, at least one of which still remains today.
