A ROYAL REMOVAL

The bronze statue of George 1V by Sir Francis Chantrey, was erected on the North Steine in 1828, and can be seen in its original position in the older photographs of the Steine. After standing there for nearly 100 years, it was removed to its present site near the North gate of the Royal Pavilion in 1922, to make way for the 1914-1918 War Memorial, which can be seen in the background of these photographs.
