IVORY PLACE

This is an old Brighton Street. It was in existence by 1818 and in 1822 a Surgeon lived at No.9. A century later it was in pretty poor condition and ready for clearance. 2-5 were the first to go, in 1933, as part of the Sussex Street widening scheme. In 1936, 18 more houses on the west side were removed, thus clearing all the houses up to No.24. On the cleared sites were built the School Clinic, with entrance in Sussex Street, and six Council houses.
