ROTTINGDEAN – MARINE DRIVE

A detached house of unusual design, standing off the coast road, in the early years of this century? Not so - just a mock house never lived in, built to disguise a ventilation shaft in the main sewer to the Portobello outfall. The shaft ran through the middle of the building and was sealed off in 1953. I regret that I do not know when it was demolished – it was still there in 1973.
