RURAL TRANSPORT

The Henfield – Brighton bus, which also carried goods, at rest on the road near Woodmancote, period about 1902. The large wicker hamper on the roof was owned by E.Watts, a signwriter of 2 London Road, Brighton, the lettering of which can just be discerned. The journey to Brighton must have been via Muddleswood crossroads and London Road, as two horses alone would never have climbed Saddlescombe Hill.
