MIRAMICHI

This old house originally stood, on its own, in a large area of land stretching back from London Road, Withdean to Station Road, guarded only by a lodge abutting on London Road, which is still there. It remained in isolation with extensive grounds for about 60 years approached by a private roadway. About 1932 development began and new houses were built on both sides of a public road named Cedars Gardens. For a time the house stayed in private occupation after which it was empty until becoming an Old People’s Home. At the time its name was changed to The Cedars. These photographs were taken in the 1970s and show the rear of the house and gardens and the frontage facing south.
