ELDRED AVENUE

This photograph, of 1935, shows the rural appearance of the original, rough road, dating from the early 1920s. Building of these houses, by a Mr. J. M. Weeks started about 1920 when this area was outside Brighton in Patcham parish. The name Eldred was taken from the Curwen family who were the principal landowners in this district. Before building started, this was all woodland locally known as Withdean Woods.
