WITHDEAN VALLEY

View up the valley, showing Newman’s Barn, in 1935, when this was grazing land, part of Withdean Farm. Eldred Avenue, which at the Tongdean Lane end had been formed in 1925, gradually extended Northwards until in 1937 it was continued right through the field in the foreground. See 1949 photograph of same area following.
