It may seem rather incongruous to put these two photographs(JG_35_038-9) on the same page but although divided in time by about 60 years, the locations are within a few yards of each other. The large panoramic view shows the whole of Patcham Village as it was in the early 1870s, before even the tiny village school had been built. Patcham Church and the Vicarage are clearly seen (far right). The farm in the centre foreground was Elm Farm, so named from the central trees, and farmed by Mr J J Clark, who moved to Goldstone Farm, in Hove, in 1877.
