PATCHAM. THE VILLAGE STREET

The peaceful scene in Old London Road, then the main road from London to Brighton. The picture is older than it might seem at first glance. Certainly it dates from the early years of the present century. A M Cohen, proprietor of the Black Lion Hotel, is listed as such in the Brighton Directory of 1902. Note the slow-moving horse starting on its long journey to Brighton and the very early motorcar approaching.
