LONDON ROAD - 1890s

Believe it or not, this is the London Road of the past century. The scene is about one mile north of the previous photograph, in the area of Pangdean Farm. The house is one of four which are still there and which were built in the 1870s. Soon after the 1914/18 War the roadway was considerably widened to the west. In the process the pond disappeared and an unkempt patch of grass behind an iron railing now marks the spot.
