HOLMES AVENUE ALLOTMENT SITE

For many years from the early years of the century, this large area west of Holmes Avenue had been used for allotments. Later the greater part became a market garden. With the decision to close Ellen Street School, a new Junior School was built here. Also the land will be used at some time in the future for a large new hospital to replace Hove Hospital, but who can say when this will be! Hove council sold 7.3 acres to Guinness Trust Housing Association for a reputed £210,000 and on this land are to be built 115 three and four bedroomed houses. In this photograph taken from Wayfield Avenue and looking west, the newly built school can be seen in the middle distance.
