Opposite the Steine and Aquarium. There is no sign of the Palace Pier and the streets are gas-lit but Volks railway terminus can be seen. From these facts we can assume the period as 1885/1890. The massive gas lamp standard at the kerbside was the only one of its type in Brighton.
