THE MARKET

The vegetable market, shown here, was built in 1834 on the site of the old Town Hall. It was demolished and replaced by the larger Floral Hall in 1900. This, in turn, gave way to the present market in Circus Street in 1935. Portions of the Floral Hall building, now used as a car park are still standing.
