OLD STEINE

Photograph of the east and north sides of the Steine in the year 1927. The two tramcars seen are travelling northwards against the flow of traffic. In the previous year, 1926, a one way system had been introduced but to avoid a complete reconstruction of the tramway system the trams were excluded from this rule. This arrangement continued for three years until 1929, when the trams were made to conform.
