The buildings of Tamplin’s Brewery at the top of Osborne Street (now Osborne Villas) caused a serious bottleneck as they protruded into Church Road.
Note the absence of traffic and that the Argus office adjoining the Brewery was of the same appearance as today.
The cottage and workshops mentioned before were on the south side of the road close to the site of the present Public Library.
