THE WISH COTTAGE

The cottage stood, facing south, about 50 yards north of New Church Road, just about where the bottom of Woodhouse Road is now. It was approached by a rough track from New Church Road. Very little information is available about this dwelling. It was on land forming part of the Duke of Portland’s estate and may well have been the house of Wish farm, some of the buildings of which were south of New Church Road. I do not know when it was built. It is shown on the 1875 Ordnance Survey and probably dated from about 1850.
