WESTERN ROAD: REGENT HILL – IMPERIAL ARCADE

February 1928.Looking down the narrows of old Western Road from the original Wades’ shop to the Clock Tower. Till now no rebuilding had taken place in this block, but in 1929 Wades moved to the Bon Marché premises and a start was made with their new building. In the foreground are Woolworths original store, the new building next door destined to be set back still further in only four years time, and Brigdens new premises wisely set back to the new building line. Incidentally, where was all the traffic in those far off days?
