WESTERN ROAD - THE PRELUDE TO CHURCHILL SQUARE

At the time of this photograph, in November 1955, few people could have guessed that most of the buildings on the south side of this busy shopping road, to beyond the distant car, would have gone within a dozen years. In fact, in late 1967, the line of shops 1-28 were swept away and the cleared site is now the entrance to Churchill Square.
