BLACK ROCK BATHING POOL

After its post war reopening, the pool enjoyed many prosperous years before it started to deteriorate structurally. It had been under a death sentence for some time, although in 1974 the Brighton Council agreed to spend about £25,000 to keep the pool open for a further five years. However, this could not save it and after the summer season of 1978 had gone, the pool closed for good. It thus had a comparatively short life of only 42 years.
