Clearance in progress of the large area now covered by the Vegetable Market. This involved the demolition of many slum streets such as Circus Court, Carlton Court, Carlton Row, Woburn Place to name only some. In the background Sussex Street climbs uphill past the Council School, with St Peters Church dominating the distant scene. Constructing the Market occupied most of 1936.
