DEVONSHIRE STREET AREA

Yet another of Brighton's clearance areas, this time a small compact unit, just three streets with a short connecting link. The decision to clear away these streets was taken in 1959 and this photograph was taken on February 21st, 1960. Demolition followed during the next year or two and it is expected that redevelopment will start in 1963.

Devonshire Street and Devonshire Terrace. As can be imagined these streets took their names from the Duke of Devonshire, a Sussex landowner at the time when they were being built.
