A much earlier photograph of this famous theatre even than that which appears on the previous page. Although there is now no means of telling exactly when the original of this was taken. I am confident that it dates from before 1866. In that year the theatre was largely rebuilt and extended, its façade being altered to that shown in the 1883 photograph.
