DYKE ROAD

This photograph is doubtless of the same year as that on the preceding page – 1893. Here, the view is beyond the Bird Museum and the long brick wall is that enclosing Highcroft, a late Victorian house which had extensive grounds. The three houses are something of a mystery. Nothing resembling them can be found today so it is not possible to say accurately where they stood. The house on the left of the three looks to be on the site of the Windmill Inn, but that was a single storey building.
