HOWARD TERRACE

Looking down Howard Terrace, across Chatham Place, past The Shakespear’s Head to Howard Place. The business of Bakers and Confectioners at 35, Chatham Place was old - established, dating back to the 1860s though Lidbetters had it only from the early years of the present century. The exact year of the photograph is not known, though the dress of the boys suggests the period of 1912 – 1914. To be certain we would have to know the years when G. Lee was the landlord of the Shakespear’s Head.
