LEWES STREET

In these enlightened days these are considered to be slums, or at least, “houses unfit for human habitation”. So, they are scheduled for early demolition. The future use of the site is uncertain. It may form part of a new inner ring road so meantime it may be used for car parking. Date of photograph – 19 June 1966 Compare these with the slums of the 1920s and 1930s to see how our standards have improved.
