BERNARD ROAD

Photographed 7 October 1962. The building seen appears to be of recent origin, probably erected after the 1939/45 War. Certainly in all previous street Directories there has been a significant gap between Nos. 25 and 37 Bernard Road. The building at the rear, in Brading Road, was for many years the Model laundry so the then open space behind the long flint wall may have been used as a drying ground. In more recent years the Brading Road premises housed the Homemade Bakery. When I was last in Bernard Road, in 1990 the building was still there.
