PRESTON STREET

A recent print from an old wax paper negative, this photograph shows a very much older Preston Street, than might appear at first sight. In fact it dates from the late 1850s, between 1856 and 1859. The name “Bax” appears on the fascia board above the shop at No. 29. John Bax was here in 1856, but he had gone by 1859.
