GRAND PARADE

Close-up view of the Grand Parade Hall. The period is not known, but probably during the first decade of the present century, the 1900s. The appearance of this building suggests a religious connection, and certainly by the 1850s it was the Catholic Apostolic Church. Later it was first a Congregational, and then a Baptist Chapel, but by the 1890s it had been secularised and from then on was used for a variety of purposes. Its address was 29 Grand Parade, near the foot of Sussex Street. Demolished in 1936 when that street was widened to give access to the new Vegetable Market in Circus Street.
