DITCHLING

Two particularly good photographs of the centre of the village. I do not know when they were taken but it is thought, the 1880s.

Image Reference: JG_33_220.tif
Date: 1880s
Image Details: Original monochrome image
Size of Original: 210x145
Place: Ditchling
Additional Information: (From Ditchling Museum):A house now called Crossways, but previously known as Gatlands, on the corner of South Street and Lewes Road, the building still stands. Lindfields occupied the site and were butchers from at least 1828 until about 1874 when the building opposite (which still appears to be there in this photo, because the window is visible) was demolished and Lindfields had the present building on the site built as a new Butcher's shop. Date, most likely 1870s
