LONDON ROAD, WITHDEAN

The entire area of these houses, gardens and the empty land behind is ten acres and when it is all owned by the Corporation it is likely to be sold for high-class private residential redevelopment. Very few Brighton people, apart from a few tradesmen, can have penetrated into the houses or gardens and the purpose of these photographs is to record how they looked in October and November 1969. This and the previous photograph show the entrance to Fircroft from the main London Road. Also the empty Fircroft Lodge. More than 40 years ago London Road was widened on the east side and the trees at the edge of the kerb are those within the grounds in the photographs on the previous page, showing the narrow road.
