LONDON ROAD, WITHDEAN

This photograph was taken by Brighton photographer, G. Schutz, during the very severe snowstorm of January 1881. Said to have been the worst for 50 years it certainly dislocated traffic and cut off parts of Brighton. The coal delivery cart was standing a few yards south of the present Tongdean Lane. The barn beyond was removed as recently as 1960 and replaced by flats.
