THE CANAL

This is the reverse view to that on the following page and could well have been taken on the same day. It shows the empty coast road from Southwick to Portslade, a sailing vessel near to or possibly moored at the Gas Works and the path, which led down to the lone canal side cottage seen in photographs on other pages. The Gas works must then have occupied a very small area as it is almost completely hidden from view by the sails of the collier.
