The peaceful scene around the Aquarium. This photograph dates from about 1881 and as it was 11.15 on a summer morning it is remarkable that so few people should be about. Note the men with the penny farthing bicycle, the ornate gas lamp, the water cart filling from the Stand pipe and the young girl both selling and eating ice-cream.
