35 MARKET STREET, JOLLY FISHERMAN

Probably the most popular, if not the most famous of the many inns which adjoined the markets, the Jolly Fisherman was an early 19 century house. By special licence it was allowed to open at 4 am for the benefit of those working at the fruit and vegetable market.
Date of photographs unknown – probably 1938.
