68-70, THE DRIVE

Three of the large houses on the east side of the Drive, just below the tennis courts. These red brick mansions were built during the 1890s, several years later than the yellow-grey brick ones lower down towards Eaton Road. They contained upwards of 20 rooms and Friars Close was large enough to be converted into flats.
69 was still occupied by a single family as recently as 1960, a relic of more spacious days.
