HOVE’S PIONEERING CINEMAS – THE TWO EMPIRES

This is a photograph of the Hove Electric Empire, George Street, evidently during the week of the Derby, though the year in unknown. This formerly occupied 76 and 77, George Street, and was opened as a cinema in 1911. It survived the impact of talking pictures and continued until 1934, after which the building was occupied as a store for a year or two. About 1936/1937 it was demolished and rebuilt.
