WEST PIER c.1890’s

This lovely photograph by Mr A H Fry dates from the 1890’s after the Pier Head had been extended by the construction of the landing stage. It affords a fine view of the sea wall built in 1894 and it is interesting to note the very considerable drop from this wall to the sea below. Most of this groyne is now completely covered with shingle.
