RICHMOND STREET AND SUSSEX TERRACE

In 1939 nos. 15 &16 Sussex Terrace collapsed due to a burst water main, and Nos. 17 and 18 were found to be in a dangerous condition, and later demolished. In 1946, cottages in Apollo Terrace collapsed into this site and the adjoining cottages were cleared leaving 5 small houses in a fairly large open area. With the intention of laying out a permanent open space Brighton Corporation took steps to acquire these houses. In this view are 81, 82 and 83, Richmond Street demolished in 1964.
