PAVILION PARADE AND OLD STEINE

1-4 Old Steine in 1927. These four houses were built about 1790 and during one of the Prince Regent’s visits to Brighton they were painted with the Whig colours of blue and buff. Henceforth they were known as the “Blues and Buffs”. 1 and 2 were demolished in 1929 but the others remain. The extent of the road widening here in 1921 may be judged by the situation of the trees on both photographs.
