SALTDEAN - THE EARLY YEARS

The construction of original Saltdean Vale, about 1923/4. This rough chalk road was put down in virtual farmland running past Newlands Barn. The chalk was dug from a nearby hill and run out to the site on these trucks drawn by a petrol engine, supplied by Hartley and Midgley Ltd., the Brighton motor engineers.
