CLIVEDEN, LONDON ROAD

Originally called Hertford Lodge, it was built during the 1860s. Like all the neighbouring villas, it stood well back from the London Road and had a lengthy back garden that ended in a tennis court. In recent years the name was changed to Cliveden, and in 1935 when London Road was widened the pavement was brought up almost to the Lodge, as seen here.
