GOLDSTONE WATERWORKS

Across the narrow country lane (now widened Woodland Drive) stood for many years an area devoted to the storage of heavy pipes and other equipment owned by the Brighton Water undertaking, who were also the owners of this valuable land. With the establishment of the Southern Water Authority the land became available for building development. The photographs were taken on 25 June 1978, when after removal of large quantities of chalk, contractors were engaged in putting in the roads. The finished development is now known as Chartfield. In the distance are houses in Nevill Way.
